This species probably has a single generation per year in Pennsylvania depending on the temperatures. Warm spring and summer conditions could permit the development of two or three generations.

All adult stink bugs are shield-shaped. Stink bugs become active in spring when temperatures rise above 70 degrees F. Each female deposits up to several hundred eggs, usually in mid- or late June. These eggs are laid in clusters.

When stink bugs are crushed or become irritated, they emit a pungent odor that is sometimes described as skunk-like.
